In recognition of the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, JACL Philadelphia will collaborate with Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival (PAAFF) to host a special showcase at their 10th annual festival. The Japanese American Showcase will highlight aspects of our community’s unique experience in this country from Issei immigrant experiences, to the wartime incarceration, reintegration and assimilation after camp, and finally our somewhat conditional acceptance into mainstream society today. The showcase consisting of 3-4 feature films, lectures, and additional off-screen programming are designed to provide a comprehensive overview of our history and culture, presenting a legacy that will impact all Philadelphians and visitors to the festival from around the country and abroad.
In recognition of the JACL’s support, current members will be granted complimentary admission to all JA Showcase films. Full schedule details for the festival are available at www.paaff.org.
In addition, JACL Young Professionals Caucus and NY/SC are excited to announce a youth and young professionals members event during the weekend of Friday, November 10th to Sunday, November 12th. JACL Youth and Young Professionals members under the age of 35 are invited to attend the festival during the weekend of Friday, November 10th to Sunday, November 12th; shared housing for Friday and Saturday night, as well as travel stipends, will be provided for all EDC youth / young professionals members. Space is limited, so please contact email@example.com as soon as possible if you are interested. This will be a fantastic opportunity for attendees to meet other JACL members from other chapters, engage in discussion around the various themes presented during the film festival, and help us plan and brainstorm ideas for the future of our organization on the district level, so we encourage anyone that is interested to attend!
